Delhi/NCR region recorded very light rain in some parts during the wee hours. Record observatory Safdarjung and Meteorological office Lodhi Road measured trace of rainfall. Palam Observatory had some thundery build-ups around the airport, but no rains. Jafarpur, Mungeshpur, Ayanagar, Narela and Pitampura recorded light rain and showers. Rainfall activity occurred between 2 am and 5 am and the clouds lifted from most parts after the sunrise. As an off-shoot early morning had some nip in the air.
A western disturbance is located over the mountains as an upper air system. Parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan also had light showers, last night. Pathankot, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Churu and Pilani received light to moderate showers. The weather system still hangs around this area and some more showers are likely today and tomorrow.
Delhi had a consistent drop in the mercury level over the past 3 days. From a day maximum of 39.4°C on Friday, the mercury dipped to 36.8°C yesterday. Delhi is on the outer peripherals of the weather system, affecting the northern plains. It stands a mild chance of light rain or drizzle, during late evening and night, today and tomorrow. With the clouds lifting up and a fair amount of sunshine, the temperature is likely to rise steadily over the next 4-5 days.
Delhi has not touched the notional mark of 40°C, so far. The current weather system will keep the mercury checked at under 40°C over the next 2 days. The next western disturbance is arriving on 26th April 2024. However, the capital city is likely to remain far from the reach of the system. After mid-week, the temperature is expected to rise. It may touch 40°C for the first time in this season, around the weekend.
