Mercury in Delhi to reach 40 again; thunderstorm likely by weekend

The weather of Delhi and NCR took a U-turn after witnessing a rainy Saturday. The intense summer heat that has gripped parts of Delhi and NCR was eliminated by these pre-Monsoon spells.

On June 10, Delhi’s Palam Observatory recorded 27 mm of rains meanwhile, rains recorded by Safdarjung stood at 5 mm. These rains helped in plunging the temperatures from 40 degrees Celsius to 38 degrees Celsius.

Initially, Delhi and NCR were experiencing moist and humid southeasterly winds which kept the humidity levels high. However, now, the wind pattern has changed and presently, dry northwesterly winds are blowing over the region.

Due to the swapping of the winds, a relief from the moist weather conditions and high humidity levels is being witnessed though temperatures are on a constant rise. Moreover, at present, any active weather system is also not foreseen over Delhi and NCR.

Due to this, Delhi and its adjoining Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad are expected to continue suffering from hot and dry weather conditions for the next three to four days. The temperatures may soar to settle between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius. However, due to the absence of moisture content, humidity levels would remain on a lower side.

As per Skymet Weather, a trough is seen running along the foothills of Himalayas. This trough is expected to become active around the weekend. Under its influence, Delhi and its surrounding regions may relish some pre-Monsoon activities in the form of the dust storm, thunderstorms, and light rains on around June 16.

Moreover, these pre-Monsoon spells would be of a short duration and by June 17, clearance in the weather conditions of the national capital and its adjoining areas is once again expected. Until these spells, Delhiites would have to continue their battle with hot weather and sunny skies.
