Delhi warm and dry weather

North India comprises of varied terrains, hilly states namely Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand along with plains consisting of regions like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and North Rajasthan and the foothills of Himalayas. Thus, these states enjoy different weather activities in terms of spread and duration of rain and thundershower activities.

During the month of May, the hills of North India experience heavy pre-Monsoon activities in terms of thundershowers and hailstorm activities. The plains of North India also witness on and off pre-Monsoon activities in the form of dust storm, thunderstorm, thundershowers and strong gusty winds mostly occurring during evening and night.

However, for the first fortnight of May, pre-Monsoon activities are being experienced over entire North India. These activities mostly occur under the influence of two weather systems. The Western Disturbance which is largely affecting the hills and its induced cyclonic circulation over the northern plains. Along with this, a trough is also seen running through all these states. These systems working in tandem have resulted in moderate to severe dust storm with high velocity winds.

In the last 24 hours, a rise in maximum temperatures across all the states of North India has been witnessed. Day maximums across Punjab were settling between 37°C-39°C, Haryana 39°C-40°C, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh beyond 40°C.

Therefore, we can say that light wind field, presences of cyclonic circulation/trough and rising temperatures are likely to cause thunderstorm, dust storm over these regions. Strong winds of 40-60 kmph and scattered light rains may also accompany.
