Fairly widespread rains were witnessed over Punjab and Haryana on December 11. These rains occurred due to the active Western Disturbance which was prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana.

As per weathermen, the western disturbance has moved away eastwards. However, it gave isolated light rains over Punjab during the last 24 hours. At present, dry and icy cold winds blowing from snow clad Himalayas are reaching the northwestern plains of Punjab and Haryana.
Therefore temperatures have already dropped by 2°C - 3°C across many places of these states. As per Skymet Weather, Hisar witnessed a significant drop of 8°C in minimum temperature from 12.9°C to 5.3°C. In fact, minimum temperature of Amritsar also by dropped 3°C.

Moreover, Amritsar and nearby areas are witnessing cold day conditions also as the maximum temperatures are also below 16° from the past two days. Winter has set in over these states and further drop in temperatures, particularly minimum temperatures are likely to due to the cold winds which are coming from snow-covered mountains of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
It is anticipated that fog will occur at many places in Punjab and Haryana which will affect day to day life. Hisar, Ambala, and Amritsar are likely to witness dense fog.
