Mercury crosses 40 degrees in Andhra Pradesh, rains to give some relief

March 14, 2017 2:17 PM|

Hot weather in Andhra PradeshAndhra Pradesh has been witnessing dry weather for long time but the recent short spells of pre-Monsoon rains had brought some relief for the parchedAndhra Pradesh. True to their nature, these pre-Monsoon showers generally occurred during late afternoon and evening hours and hence, did not had any major impact on the day temperatures.

For the last few days, maximum temperatures over most parts of the state have been settling above normal average in higher 30s. One or two places have even surpassed 40-degree mark, resulting in hot and sultry afternoons.

On Monday, Anantpur recorded the day temperature at 40.4°C, followed by Kurnool 38.8°C,Tirupathi37.5°C, Nellore 36°C,Vijayawada 36°C and Ongole 35.5°C.

Now, some relief is on cards as Andhra Pradesh is likely to witness some scattered pre-Monsoon rains. As per Skymet Weather, a trough has developed from Vidarbha region of Maharashtra to InteriorTamil Naduacross Rayalaseema. Hence, parts of Rayalaseema and adjoining areas can brace for some showers to show up by tonight or by tomorrow. Tirupathi has already recorded some traces of rains as well.

In wake of this, maximum temperatures will drop marginally but will continue to hover between 35°C to 38°C. Therefore, not much changes are likely in the prevailing scorching temperatures and the maximums will remain above normal.

The relief will be temporary in nature as rain activity will usually occur during the latter part of the day. Also, rains will not continue for very long and one could only witness one or two short spells. In fact, these rains will leave lots of moisture in atmosphere, which will further enhance the discomfort level.

This type of hot and humid weather can sometimes lead to heatstroke and thus, people must consider taking the precautions.
