Every year when winter commences, particularly during late October and early November, the issue of pollution becomes a trademark. Until and unless strict measures are not taken and implemented, pollution levels will not be controlled.
Though Government has banned crop burning, it is still taking place in many states. Till now 1046 violators have been scrutinized and a fine of Rs 13.75 Lakh has been recovered.
On a serious note, there should be some strict measures to be taken for the same.
1. Training and workshops and awareness programs for farmers must be conducted from time to time where they should be taught about the harmful effects of stubble burning on the environment.
2. More subsidies should be provided to the farmers such as happy seeders, rotavators, and straw reapers for managing straw in a more sustainable manner.
3. Another way can be if the government can take the initiative to remove the straw leftover after the harvesting of crops and dispose it or use it in something or the other.
4. One more way is to install huge purifiers across the city for these measures are very costly and tough to maintain.
5. As the festival of lights, Diwali is also celebrated during this crucial period therefore there should be a limit given on crackers burning, as this also is to be blamed for the increase in air pollution.
6. Government should educate and conduct awareness programs about the harmful effects of crackers in the form of ads, Mohalla Sabha, street theatre, statutory warnings using various mediums of media.
