The first month of pre-monsoon season that is March remained mostly dry for Pune as well as for Madhya Maharashtra. Although occasional showers were reported over the city, the total rainfall recorded by Pune observatory in March was just 0.3 mm against the normal of 16.6 mm.

Due to this, the month of May commenced with good rain and thundershower activities over Madhya Maharashtra including Pune. Yesterday intense thundershower activities lashed many parts of the city uprooting trees, toppling traffic signals, billboards as well as signal towers at many places. These intense showers have resulted in traffic jams and disturbance in cell phone service. Fire brigade services received at least 60 calls relating to the uprooting of trees and blocking the roads.
First 2 days of May, Pune recorded 21 mm rain against the monthly average of 40.6 mm. The trough persists over Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining area. Chances of rain and thundershower during the afternoon and evening today cannot be ruled out. As these thundershowers occurred during the late afternoon, the maximum temperature remained above normal by 1 degree Celsius.
