April 6, 2014 4:00 PM |

With maximums constantly on the rise, days are getting hotter in Central India. According to the latest weather update by Skymet’s Meteorology Division in India, day temperatures will only rise in the coming days, providing no relief from the intense heat.

“Maximums in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Odisha, Chhattisgarh as well as in adjoining Telangana and Rayalseema have sustained between 38⁰C to 41⁰C in the last few days. Flat westerly winds which are very warm in nature will bring no changes in the weather in Central India. And maximums could further rise by a notch or two”, said Mahesh Palawat of Skymet’s Meteorology Division.

The hottest city in India yesterday was Khargaun in south Madhya Pradesh where the maximum temperature recorded was 43.2⁰C. Other cities which saw day temperature settling above 40⁰C, were: Nagpur - 41⁰C, Akola – 41.2⁰C, Solapur - 41.1⁰C, Ahmedabad – 40.5⁰C, Kurnool – 41.2⁰C, Ramagundum – 40.3⁰C and Gulbarga - 41⁰C.

Meanwhile, the weather in North India is also getting hotter by the day. Maximums in Rajasthan are settling 3 to 4 degrees above the normal average, between 38⁰C to 40⁰C in almost all the cities. Kota remained the hottest in the last 24 hours at 41⁰C.

While rain and thundershowers could lash many parts of North India, including, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, during the next 24 hours, Rajasthan may escape the rains and remain dry and hot.

In contrast to the hot weather in rest of the country, Amritsar observed the coolest daytime at 29.5⁰C yesterday.
