We are in a phase of pre-monsoon, wherein rise in temperature is normally observed. However, due to successive passage of Western Disturbance, the day temperatures are still in the lower side of 20s. The normal maximum for the month of March is 28.4°C whereas the minimum is 13.4°C.
Against this, today Chandigarh recorded maximum at 19.6°C which is significantly below normal due to intermittent rain spells and clouding. Whereas, the minimum remained close to normal at 13.6°C. At present, the Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir with its induced Cyclonic Circulation over Rajasthan, hence, the rain activity over the city is expected to continue for another 24-48 hours.
As per weathermen, the maximums won’t see a significant rise, however a marginal rise cannot be dismissed while minimums might continue to drop further. Today in and around the city of Chandigarh, Cold Day condition prevailed.
The last ten year minimum record for the city was in 2017 at 7.5°C for the month of March. The met situation shows that the immediate rise in day temperature is not likely because another Western Disturbance would be affecting the Northern Himalayan range. Chandigarh located at the foothills of Punjab is likely to witness another round of wet spell during this time.
