The scorching heat of Indian summer is rapidly approaching with temperatures now edging towards a sweltering 40°C in four pockets of the country, namely Gujarat, Rayalaseema, Mahrashtra and Telangana.
Weather in Gujarat
Gujrat seems to be hottest state with most places recording maximums above 40°C. Rajkot (40.8°C), Deesa (40°C), Idar (41.2°C), Ahmedabad (40.2°C), Baroda (40.2°C) crossed the 40 degree mark for the first time this season.
It’s nothing unusual for the interiors but even the coastal station of Naliya recorded 40.4°C on Sunday. Normally, humid winds in the coastal areas do not allow rise in temperatures. However, in absence of any weather activity at present, coastal areas are witnessing heat wave conditions. Temperatures are around 5 to 7 degrees above the normal average in coastal areas of Veraval, Surat, Kandla and Naliya. No relief is likely in the entire state for next 3 to 4 days.
Weather in Maharashtra
Maharashtra is also witnessing extremely hot weather conditions. Solapur recorded 40.6°C as the day temperature on Sunday. Nashik, Nagpur, Akola, Pune and other parts of the state are recording maximums in higher thirties. Temporary relief could be expected after a short spell of rain within next 24 to 48 hours. A longer spell of rain on March 29, will be good enough to bring a significant drop in temperatures.
Weather in Rayalaseema and Telangana
Temperatures are soaring in Rayalaseema and Telangana as well. Peninsular India is witnessing pre-monsoon conditions. Kurnool crossed 40°C for the first time this season on Sunday, when maximum settled at 40.6°C. Other places like Anantapur, Tirupati and Hyderabad are around 39°C and will soon cross 40°C.
