As the clock ticks midnight and the New Year wishes fill the atmosphere, weather gods are expected to shower their blessings on the residents of Maharashtra in the form of light rain.

As the sky of Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and other parts become cloudy before and during the rain, the cities are likely to experience pleasant weather for some more days.

Earlier, the cold wave had gripped the Vidarbha and Marathwada region of Maharashtra with minimums falling below normal by 5-6°C. These cold wave conditions are actually an off-shoot of cold wave conditions existing in North India which extend and cover these parts.

Parts of Madhya Marashtra, Pune and Nashik, were also experiencing single digit minimums, leaving a winter chill in the city. While Nashik experienced the pattern for 15 days starting from 15th December with the lowest of 6.1°C on 29th, Pune experienced the similar pattern for almost 4 days with the lowest of 7.8°C on the same day.

However, the minimums have risen in Pune and Nashik. Moreover, the temperatures have risen across Maharashtra and are now above normal by 5-6°C.

But according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, light and widespread rain is expected in these regions enabling a drop in day temperatures and abating the cold wave conditions from these places. The light rain will be a result of the persisting system over southwest Bay of Bengal.
