Temperatures of Northwest and Central India, saw a drop during December 16. In fact, we can say that minimums had dropped significantly over these areas during the second half of December 2018. This drop in temperatures further led to presence of Cold Wave conditions over many parts of Vidarbha, some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan as well as Gujarat.

However, since the last few days, there has been a gradual increase in temperatures which led to abatement of Cold Wave conditions form most of the pockets. However, isolated pockets of East Madhya Pradesh including Jabalpur are still reeling under Cold Wave conditions.

Now, a weather system is approaching the Western Himalayas, which will induce a Cyclonic Circulation over North India. Thus, the direction of winds during that time will change and southeasterly/southerly winds will start to blow over most parts of Central and Northwest India leading to increase in temperatures and abatement of Cold Wave conditions.

Thus, minimum temperatures, in particular will rise by two to four degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures are also expected to increase over Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

However, during the rainy episode, the temperatures of North and Central Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will fall by three to five degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, not much change is expected over Central and South Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat.
