Thunderstorm in BiharNor'westers lashed three districts of Bihar late Tuesday night, leaving 32 dead and over 80 injured. The affected districts include Purnia, Madhubani and Madhepura.

Nor'westers are the severe thunderstorms punched with strong squally winds and torrential rain.

“32 people dead, over 80 injured in late night storm in three Bihar districts,” the Principal Secretary to disaster management department told PTI.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the region is experiencing pre-monsoon season during which it becomes prone to these Nor'westers. On Tuesday, the region was witnessing all weather factors needed for a severe storm to form.

A cyclonic circulation over Bihar and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal region, moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal and high temperatures in the region triggered the storm.

As per Skymet, these storms generally originate during evening or late night hours and are packed with high velocity winds and rain. On Tuesday, Purnia recorded 20 mm of rain.

The state government has already started rescue operations in the two affected districts. As per media reports, government has also declared a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of the victims.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also expected to conduct an aerial survey of the two districts, reported PTI.
