After witnessing a lull period for around 8 to 10 days, Monsoon revived over the country with a bang. Both the western and eastern arms of Southwest Monsoon are active at present and this is the reason, both the eastern and western ends of the country are receiving inundating rains.
On the western half, Gujarat and Maharashtra bore the major brunt of Monsoon rains with most pockets of the state recording flood-causing rains. The rains refreshed the memories of last year's flood that too killed several people in Gujarat.
On the past day as well, street submerging rains were recorded by a few districts of Gujarat. In fact, Valsad, in the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, recorded massive rains to the tune of 291 mm that created chaos in the city, reportedly killing four people.
Other pockets of the state that received rains during the similar time frame include Vadodara with 74 mm of heavy rains, Bhavnagar 3 mm, Mahuva 5 mm, Ahmedabad 1 mm, Veraval 0.1 mm, and Porbandar receiving 0.2 mm of rains.

Along with this, these Monsoonal showers even paralyzed road traffic and disrupted rail and air traffic. Holidays have been declared in schools and educational institutions in view of these torrential showers.
As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these incessant rains can be attributed with the cyclonic circulation that was persisting over South Gujarat and adjoining North Maharashtra coast. As this weather system is expected to persist over the region for another 24 hours, therefore, we expect heavy to very heavy rains to continue over the pockets like Valsad, Navsari, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Surat for the next 24 hours as well.

However, thereafter, the system would gradually move in the north direction, towards east-central Gujarat and North Gujarat, leading to a reduction of rain intensity over parts of South Gujarat.
However, rains may increase over parts of North Gujarat in cities like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, and Sabarkantha.
By June 28, we expect, a significant reduction in rain intensity over most parts of Gujarat however, light rain at a few places may continue over many districts which would further deteriorate the already flooding conditions.
