Western Disturbances usually start becoming less frequent and are not very active in the month of March. However, this time, the season has been a little different as compared to other times.
There have been frequent Western Disturbances over the hills but most of them have been very mild resulting in light rains or clouding and not a lot of rainfall activity as such. There have even been instance when a series of them have made an appearance, but they've been on the milder side and confined only to the hills.
With the result, all these hilly areas in March so far have been on the deficient side as far as rains are concerned. In fact, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Ladakh are largely deficient contrary to what it was in the month of January. February saw figures dipping but March resulted in highly deficient figures for the hills.
There is a Western Disturbance today and tomorrow, which may result in some rains over the hills, but it will not be enough to fill the deficient gap for the month of March.
