March to begin on a good rainy note for South India

February 28, 2017 7:02 PM | Skymet Weather Team

From the Southwest Monsoon last year till date, most areas of South India are some way or the other remained rainless. It was only during Cyclone Vardah which brought heavy rains with gusty winds in December last year. But it looks like the month of March is likely to bring the rainy days for most parts of South India.

Up until now only light rain activity was witnessed over few isolated areas of Kerala, Tamil Nadu during February. Now a trough which is extending from Lakshadweep Islands to North interior Karnataka is likely to persist for another 24-48 hours. This trough is likely to strengthen and thereafter move in northeast direction.

Due to this weather system rain and thundershower is likely to intensify from Coastal Tamil Nadu and gradually over most parts of Tamil Nadu. Along with Tamil Nadu the rainfall activity will cover south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Telangana and also cover few districts of Odisha as well.

Mainly light rain will be witness with cloudy weather over all. Till March 3, south of Chennai will witness good rainfall activity and from Match 4 Chennai along with most of Tamil Nadu will get rainfall activity.
