As predicted by Skymet Weather, rain and thundershowers have lashed several parts of Maharashtra during the last 24 hours. These showers were accompanied with hailstorm and squally winds that have caused severe damage to the crops, especially in the regions of Marathwada and Vidarbha.

Places of Marathwada such as Beed, Osamanabad, Aurangabad, Latur, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded and Hingoli have reported crop damage. Most affected districts were Jalna, Beed and Parbhani.
According to crop experts, these unseasonal weather activities over the Marathwada regions have resulted in unprecedented crop damages. As per the primary reports, crops such as Wheat, Bengal Gram, Jowar, Orange, Grapes, Mango, Papaya, Pomegranate, Onion and other vegetables have incurred huge losses.

Not only this, weathermen are predicting more spells of rains and hailstorm over parts of Maharashtra during the next 24 hours. Thus, the threat of crop damage still looms large over standing field crops, fruit crops and vegetables. As suggested earlier, farmers are recommended to take care of standing crops.

Thereafter, the trough is expected to weaken, thus again dry and cool northerly-northeasterly winds will commence. So, day and night temperatures will drop over many parts of the region, leading to comfortable weather.
The reason for these weather activities could be attributed to the wind confluence zone over Vidarbha and Marathwada which was formed due to the amalgamation of humid winds from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. Besides this, a trough is running from Northwest Rajasthan up to Vidarbha region.
If there were only rains, there would not have been much damage. However, hailstorm and squally winds have resulted damage on a huge scale that persisted for half an hour at a stretch.
What’s more, causalities were also reported, wherein hailstorm has claimed around three lives.
