At present, Marathwada is the only region of Maharashtra which is witnessing excess rains by 1%. Vidarbha is also following its footsteps, as the Monsoon rains over the region has also picked up pace. Though the region is currently witnessing rain deficiency of 13% but is likely to cover up soon.
Both the drought-hit regions have witnessed some good spell of rains during the last 24 hours. Moreover, weather conditions are of indications that good rains are likely to continue over Marathwada and Vidarbha for the next 48 hours as well.
According to Skymet Weather, the ongoing rainy spell can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation that was over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Though the system has diffused but its remnants will continue to give some more rains. However, they will not be heavy in nature.
Thereafter, intensity of rains is likely to reduce but will pick up once again July 4 onwards. This will be an another prolonged spell lasting for at least 3-4 days. These rains will be on account of the fresh low-pressure area in west-central Bay of Bengal that will move inland and move in west-northwest direction. We can also expect heavy to very heavy rains during this time.
With this, rain deficiency in Vidarbha is expected to recover. Marathwada, on the other hand, will continue to receive rains that will remain in excess than the normal.
Following are the rainfall figures recorded across the regions in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday:
