Since last many days, temperatures are soaring, leading to intense heat wave over many parts of the country. An anticyclone has formed over western parts of Rajasthan. Hot and dry westerly and West North westerly winds are flowing across Rajasthan and western parts of Madhya Pradesh as well as parts of North India. Impact of these dry and hot winds is being felt over Vidarbha, Gujarat, Konkan as well as over Telangana.
Jammu region, parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also under the tight grip of heat wave. Temperatures are above normal by 7 to 8 degree over parts of Rajasthan, 3 to 5 degrees above normal over Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, 7 to 6 degrees above normal over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and 8 to 10 degrees above normal over Jammu division.
Now, the anticyclone is expected to fade away and wind direction may change from westerly / southwesterly to north westerly and northerly. This may lead to drop in temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees in the next 24 hours leading to abatement of a severe heat wave, however heat wave may continue for another 24 to 48 hours.
