Mangaluru, Karwar, Kochi, Kannur to witness Light Monsoon rains

Kerala has been witnessing light to moderate rain from the past few days. As per Skymet Weather, the offshore trough which was running from North Konkan and Goa to Kerala have become less marked. Due to the weakening of the weather system, we expect the intensity of rain to reduce over Kerala significantly.

However, light rain may continue over the coastal districts such as Kochi, Kannur, and Kozhikode. Temperatures are likely to rise by a few degrees and the weather will once again become warm and humid. Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka witnessed good rains in the past day.

Meanwhile, northern parts of the region received light to very light Monsoon rains at a few places. Due to the weakening of the offshore trough, it is anticipated that the weather across the major parts of the state will become dry. However, light rains with one or two moderate spells may occur over the coastal districts of Karnataka.

Places such as Karwar, Honnavar, Mangaluru may witness rainfall activities. Meanwhile, the state capitals Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram will remain dry. During the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Kannur witnessed moderate intensity rain to the tune of 28.6 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 14.6 mm of rain. Meanwhile, Kottayam witnessed light rain of 8.6 mm, Punalur 8 mm and Alapuzha 7 mm of rain.

In the same span of time, Madikeri in Karnataka recorded heavy rain to the tune of 32.4 mm. Meanwhile, Karwar observed moderate intensity rain of 22.8 mm and Hassan 20.2 mm. Belagavi, Agumbe, Honnavar, and Mangaluru also witnessed light Monsoon showers.

As on September 19, Kerala is rain deficient by 9 percent, Coastal Karnataka by 17 percent and South Interior Karnataka by 3 percent while North Interior Karnataka is rain surplus by 3 percent.
