Makar Sankranti: Kolkata, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar to witness pleasant weather, fog to improve

During last 24 hours many parts of Gangetic West Bengal, coastal parts of Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand witnessed dense fog. The duration of fog over these areas was longer. The visibility also reduced to 100 meters in the city of joy Kolkata.

Due to prevalent fog, the day temperatures dropped significantly over the regions. As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation persisting over West Bangladesh and adjoining areas, the northwesterly winds were disturbed and the moist winds were penetrated in southern parts of West Bengal and northern parts of Odisha during last 24 hours.

However, at present, north westerlies are expected to replace south westerlies from Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Northeast Odisha. As per weathermen, the fog conditions improved at some places today itself and residents woke up to a less foggy morning. It is anticipated that fog is likely to improve more over many parts. However, many areas in Gangetic West Bengal may witness and dense fog and cold day conditions.

The minimum temperatures may drop marginally over Jharkhand, West Bengal, and northwest Odisha during the next 24 hours. The festival of Makar Sankranti would be celebrated on January 14 across India. On the eve of Makar Sankranti, the residents would wake up to a cooler morning. The sky conditions would remain clear over regions as well as Ganga Sagar.

Kolkata and Ranchi are expected to witness mist during the morning hours in many parts with patchy fog in few parts. Weather would remain pleasant across Kolkata and Ranchi. Whereas, Bhubaneswar would remain fog free and will observe comfortably warm weather.
