Most parts of Gujarat are experiencing slightly warm days and cosy mornings, since the last 2 days. Earlier, north and central Gujarat, along with Kutch region had sharply dropped to low temperatures. Similar conditions are expected again around Makar Sankranti, when the mercury is expected to plunge below the normals and sliding to single digit minimum temperature at many places.
Gujarat is considered fair weather state during winters. Only coastal stations in Saurashtra and Kutch witness advected sea fog and the radiation fog as widely observed over North India is barely noticed. Fluctuation of temperatures becomes large, extending the diurnal variation and more so over the hinterland of the state.
Western disturbance is approaching Western Himalayas today and traversing across the mountains for the next 4 days between 10th and 13th January. Remnant effect may extend to 14th Jan, Makar Sankranti and dissolve thereafter.
Wind pattern is likely to change over Rajasthan during the passage of western disturbance. Northern state of Rajasthan is the gateway of cold winds for its neighbouring region of Gujarat. The cold stream from the northern plains reaching state of Gujarat will be snapped as early as today. Slow resumption is expected to commence from 12th Jan and get completed by 13th Jan.
Subsequently, the night temperatures are likely to drop by 3-4 degree. Single digit minimum temperatures are quite likely over North & Central Gujarat and Kutch region. Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Palanpur, Mehsana, Deesa and Patan will have the bigger share of drop. Kutch region basing Lakhput, Bhuj, Naliya, Bhachau, Gandhidham and Anjar will have the similar decline of temperatures. Central Gujarat housing Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Godhra and Vadodara will also observe moderate drop to slip close to single digit temperature around this period.
