The Low-Pressure Area that had formed in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area, furthermore becoming a depression this morning. The system is expected to intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours.
The system is a little away about 400 km away from the east coast of Sri Lanka. Earlier, it was expected that it will directly impact the island nation. However, now the steering winds will not allow the storm to make a direct impact over Sri Lanka, as was earlier anticipated.
Thus, Sri Lanka is expected to be saved from the fierce fury of the storm as models indicate. However, its northern half and east coast come under the strike range of the system.
Inclement weather is expected to start today and continue until March 5. Rainfall activities will be between moderate to heavy over some parts of Sri Lanka.
