Since the last few days, scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers are going on over many parts of Maharashtra. During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains occurred over South Konkan and Goa, scattered light to moderate rains were observed over North Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra, isolated rains occurred over Marathwada and at a few places over Vidarbha.
At present a Cyclonic Circulation has formed over North Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. A Trough is extending from this Cyclonic Circulation to North Interior Karnataka and adjoining Telangana. An off-shore Trough is also running along the Maharashtra coast.
Now, we expect light to moderate rain and thundershower over Madhya Maharashtra, while moderate to heavy rains might be a possibility over South Konkan and Goa.
Gradually, the rain intensity will also increase over North Konkan and Goa including Mumbai, by tomorrow. We expect moderate to heavy rains with one or two very heavy spells over Mumbai, Dhanu, Thane and adjoining areas. These good rains are expected to continue until June 29.
Although, rains will remain subdued over Marathwada and Vidarbha for the next 24 to 48 hours. However, we expect the rain intensity to increase over these two regions by June 29. Due to the influence of a Low-Pressure Area which will form over Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rains are possible over Vidarbha and Marathwada by July 2.
These on and off rains are now likely to continue as Monsoon season is here in Maharashtra.
