However, these rains are likely to pick up the pace by June 6, which would trigger the onset of Southwest Monsoon over South Konkan region. During this time, the intensity of rains would be heavy to very heavy, mainly over South Konkan and adjoining regions of Madhya Maharashtra. Parts of these regions can even expect some heavy to very heavy spells.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers are advised to continue nursery bed preparation for Kharif rice in South Konkan. Farmers should procure and keep the seed, fertilizers, and pesticides ready for timely sowing of rain-fed crops.

In Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Konkan, farmers are advised to avoid irrigation, intercultural operation and application of plant protection measures and fertilizers to the standing crops. Farmers should also provide adequate drainage in standing crop fields to avoid water stagnation. To increase the fertility of rice field, farmers may use green manure crops like Sunhemp and Dhaincha.
