Maharashtra sees good rains in wake of Cyclone Maha, more rains likely

During the last 24 hours, widespread rainfall activities were observed over Maharashtra. Significant rainfall was observed over North Konkan as well as North Madhya Maharashtra. These rains were mainly moderate in intensity along with heavy rains at isolated places.

Significant rainfall was observed in Alibag which recorded 94 mm rains, Bulsar 24 mm, Dahanu 41 mm, Santa Cruz 46 mm and Nashik received 36 mm rains.

These rains can be closely associated with the Severe Cyclone Maha which at present, lies over East-central Arabian Sea above 550 km Southwest of Veraval. A Trough is extending from this system reaching up to Southwest Madhya Pradesh while passing through North coastal parts of Maharashtra.

Rainfall activity will continue over the area during the next 48 hours. Moderate rainfall is expected over Marathwada, North Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining Vidarbha region. Isolated moderate rains might batter North Konkan, and Dahanu.

Activity over South Konkan and South Madhya Maharashtra will reduce today. Moderate rainfall is expected over Aurangabad, Akola, Jalna, Nanded and Jalgaon.

On the other hand, cities like Nagpur, Chandrapur, Akola and Amravati will witness mainly light rains. Activity will reduce further over Vidarbha including these districts.
