As on August 31, Marathwada was 50 per cent rain deficient. Also, Madhya Maharashtra was observing a deficit of 40 per cent. However, Vidarbha has performed slightly better than the other two regions with the rain deficiency being 13 per cent, which is considered to be on the normal side.

The first week of September looked promising in terms of rainfall. While, the first 3 to 4 days have not been rainy enough, the region has been receiving good rains since the last two days. Also, during the next 3 days, a Monsoon system, which is brewing in the Bay of Bengal and is moving inland will result in good Monsoon showers in the region.

The hardest hit pockets of Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra will receive good Monsoon showers for at least one week and the rain deficiency is expected to improve marginally. These rains will also be beneficial for the crops of this season as well as for the crops to be sowed in the next sowing season.
