Heatwave in Maharashtra has begun to wreak havoc over the residents. So much so that temperatures have been settling well above the normal levels. Many areas in the state are recording maximums way above the 40-degree mark during the last few days.

It is only the end of March and heatwave conditions have already begun to affect the region, This type of weather usually occurs during the month of April and May.

As per media reports, at least five people have been killed due to the deadly heatwave which has been affecting the state of Maharashtra. The most affected regions happen to be the central as well as northern parts of the state.

Akola in the state has been witnessing maximum at 44°C, Wardha 44°C, Chandrapur 43.2°C, Bramhapuri 43.1°C, Jalgaon 42.2°C and Malegaon 42°C.

One such city which has been witnessing heatwave conditions in Maharashtra is Nagpur. Here, the maximum temperature settled at a whopping 43.3 degree Celsius. This happens to be the highest maximum in the last decade.

In fact, the last time such high maximums were recorded was over a hundred years ago. The maximum temperature had reached to a whopping 45 degree Celsius on March 28, 1892. Thereafter, the city had recorded 42.5 degrees on March 22 and 23 in the year 2010.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the inflow of dry and hot winds prevailing from north-northwest direction. These winds are coming from the central region of the country where maximums are already sky high. These dry and hot winds are resulting in an increase in temperatures.

As per weathermen at Skymet, these weather conditions will remain the same and temperatures will continue to settle way above the 40-degree mark.
