Recently, in Palghar district of Maharashtra, drought assistance of Rs 21.09 crore was provided to more than 51,000 farmers.
In the words of Collector Prashant Narvare, ‘the last year’s monsoon was deficient due to which districts reservoirs had only 22% stock of their total storage capacity’.
‘Realising the need, a sum of Rs 21.09 crore was given as compensation to overcome the scarcity in the district’, he further told.
The amount has helped 51,174 farmers until now, from 333 villages in Palghar.
Collector Prashant Narvare further revealed that the district was even visited by Manisha Verma, principal secretary of the state tribal development department, during the weekend. She reviewed the situation of water scarcity and there was no dearth of funds to overcome the situation.

Earlier, an installment worth Rs 2,160 crore was released by the Centre to the Maharashtra government for taking measures regarding the drought situation in the state, for which Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for providing funds to Maharashtra from the National Disaster Response Fund during the time when several districts were reeling under drought.
