The state of Maharashtra has been battling dry weather conditions due to dry northerly and north easterly winds that are blowing over the entire state. Moreover, an Anti-Cyclone is expected to develop over West Rajasthan due to which arid conditions will continue over Maharashtra in near future too.
Minimum temperatures over many parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada are below normal by 2°C-4°C. In fact, many parts of Maharashtra are experiencing cooler nights than Delhi.
The presence of cold weather during night can be attributed to clear sky conditions and cold northerly winds over the state. Since, earth starts releasing energy after sunset in the form of long-wave radiations, the sky becomes clear as this energy escapes into upper layer of atmosphere leading to rapid cooling of earth’s surface.
However, day temperatures are still above normal making the days hotter and setting uneasiness in the atmosphere.
In the coming days, no significant increase in the night temperatures of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra is expected, and these regions will continue to face dry and warm weather. Moreover, the variation between day and night temperatures i.e. diurnal variation is quite high because of which days are warm and sunny while nights are cool and comfortable.
