Updated on March 4, 2016: North Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha have been receiving good rains for the past 24 hours.
One or two places have also witnessed heavy rains. Scattered light rain has been going on over the state since more than a week.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Aurangabad received a whopping 41 mm of rain. Light rain was observed over Nagpur, while Dahanu recorded 2 mm rain.
These rains have occurred due to the confluence zone, which is presently over North Madhya Maharashtra extending up to South Chhattisgarh. Two weather systems including a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and an anti-cyclone over North Bay of Bengal have been causing the dry northwesterly winds to meet moist southeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal.
The confluence zone will persist for another 24 hours. Thus North Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada will continue to receive good showers for another 24 hours.
Isolated places may receive hailstorm as well. By the evening hours of March 5, rainfall intensity will significantly reduce over parts of Maharashtra. However, as the weather system moves towards the east, Vidarbha will continue to receive good showers for another 48 hours.
Story First Published on March 1, 2016: The entire state of Maharashtra is experiencing rainfall from past one week but the levels of temperature have remained on a higher side.
Since February 26 Vidarbha is observing scattered light rain over the region. During the last 24 hours the intensity of the rain has increased considerably. Vidarbha along with Marathawada and some parts of Madhya Maharashtra received good rainfall.
A trough is extending from South Konkan & Goa to South-West Madhya Pradesh. Because of this, there is a confluence zone over Maharashtra which is causing the rainfall.
Dry winds from northwest direction are meeting the warm and humid winds from southeast direction that originate in the Bay of Bengal. This interaction of winds is helping in the cloud formation.
Therefore, Skymet predicts that in the next 24 hours light (7.5 mm) to moderate (7.5mm to 35 mm) rain is expected over most of the Maharashtra. The intensity of this rain will be less over Vidarbha but Madhya Maharashtra will receive good rainfall.
The day temperatures are on the higher side, up to 2-3 degree Celsius. But due to the rains the temperatures will drop back to normal or even below normal. But the minimum temperatures are one higher side, 3-6 degree Celsius more than the usual. The rains will affect the temperatures but only marginally. The minimum temperatures will be on the higher side only.
Here is the list of places which received good amount of rainfall.
