Maharashtra cities in Top 15 hottest cities in world, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Akola on red heat wave alert

India continues to be in news, but this time for its scorching weather. For the last two consecutive days, Indian cities, particularly from Maharashtra and Telangana are among the top 15 hottest cities across the world.

On Tuesday, according to an US-based website, six of the world’s hottest cities were from India. Out of which four belong to Maharashtra. Chandrapur had recorded 47.8℃, was the third hottest place on this planet, the fifth being Nagpur with a maximum of 47.5℃. Bramhapuri and Wardha were on eight and twelfth position with maximums at 46.9℃ and 46.5℃, respectively.

On Wednesday, mercury touched a new height. With maximum of 48℃, Chandrapur was the hottest city not only in India but front runner among the top hottest cities.

According to Skymet Weather, significant rise is a result of absence of pre Monsoon activities. The weather of entire Maharashtra has been heating up for the last many days. Unabated flow of hot winds from northwest direction, leading to heat wave to severe heat wave in many parts of the state.

Severe heat wave conditions are prevailing in parts of Vidarbha, with region being on red alert. According to Skymet Weather, we expect severe heat wave conditions to continue in parts of Vidarbha, while heat wave in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada for next three to four days.

Several places such as Nagpur, Chandrapur, Akola, Wardha, Aurangabad, Jalna, Nanded, Latur and Malegaon will observe hot days with heat wave condition. Here, minimums will also stay above normal over 30℃.

Both day and night temperatures would remain above normal and the residents would have to battle extremely uncomfortable weather. No significant weather activity is expected over Vidarbha for at least next three days. Thereafter, scattered rain and thundershowers will occur in parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada which will help in easing out the situation. Moreover, heat wave may abate due to cloud cover and rain.
