Southwest Monsoon 2018 has come to an end, with Maharashtra witnessing normal rains this year with slight rainfall deficiency of 8%. However, ever since its departure, Maharashtra has been battling hot weather and dry conditions.
Temperatures, particularly day temperatures have witnessed significant rise, settling well above the normal average. Day maximums in many parts of the state are in higher 30s, leading to a very warm weather. According to Skymet Weather, the anti-cyclone over Madhya Pradesh has been infusing hot and dry winds from Rajasthan over Maharashtra. This has resulted in increase in temperatures.
Mumbai has been also bearing the brunt of this, with city recording maximum of 36.8 degree Celsius on Monday which was six degrees above normal, while Tuesday saw 35.4 degree Celsius on Tuesday that was four degrees above normal.
There has been a trough running along the West Coast from a cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea, which is giving patchy rains over parts of Madhya Maharashtra and parts of Coastal Maharashtra. However, these rains are not instrumental in bringing down the temperatures.
These showers are likely to continue for some more time, but it would give momentary relief only and temperatures would rise again. Now as the system in Arabian Sea would get more organised, we can expect some scattered light to moderate rains during October 6-8. However, these rains would be confined to coastal areas only and so does the relief.
