The joyful festival of Durga Puja that is celebrated with immense joy and enthusiasm in West Bengal begins today. The inhabitants of West Bengal particularly, Kolkata are already set up for the preliminaries, and the pandals are already put up, it is predicted that the festivity will have a rainy beginning. In fact, at present also, the sky in most parts of Kolkata is cloudy with the possibility of light showers.
Though Skymet Weather predicts that these rains will be very light in nature and will be of a very short duration thus the rains will not hamper the Durgaotsava much. Though the last 24 hours were mainly dry for both Gangetic and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal wherein only a few pockets of the state observed rains.
Jalpaiguri recorded 22.2 mm of rains, Behrampore 6 mm and Sri Niketan witnessed 3.3 mm of light spells in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Monday. On the contrary, the capital city, Kolkata remained dry during the similar time frame. But now, isolated light spells are being anticipated over the city.

As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation which is over the west-central Bay of Bengal will gradually move towards Odisha Coast. Moreover, the humid winds from the Bay of Bengal will increase moisture over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata. Due to this weather system, rains are expected to show up in most parts of West Bengal including the state capital.

However, as this weather system is heading towards Odisha, therefore, a major amount of rain is likely to occur over Odisha. While Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata will receive light rains with one or two moderate spells only.
Skymet Weather further reiterates that these Monsoon rains will keep on occurring during the entire Maha Pujo celebrations but not much disruption in the ongoing puja celebrations in Kolkata is anticipated. Rather, these rains will, in turn, make the weather pleasant and comfortable.
