Madhya Pradesh witnesses heavy to moderate Monsoon rains

August 3, 2016 9:00 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Madhya Pradesh has been receiving good Monsoon rains for the last couple of days. Multiple weather systems can be attributed to this type of weather condition in the state.

Panchmarhi received a whopping 185 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Tuesday. Betul received 33.8 mm of rainfall while Bhopal received 19 mm. Indore received 32.6 mm of rainfall while Guna received 7.4 mm. Ujjain also received 45 mm of rainfall and Umaria received 23.2 mm.

The axis of the Monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Bikaner, Guna, Jharsuguda, centre of the low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal, off Odisha coast, and thence eastsoutheastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighboring areas has merged with the Monsoon trough. Therefore, rain intensity will decrease in most parts of the state. However, West Madhya Pradesh will continue to receive on and off rains.

On August 5 and 6, East and Northeast Madhya Pradesh will receive good rains once again. This will be due to a cyclonic circulation developing over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas.

At present, West Madhya Pradesh is 43% rain surplus.
