Since the onset of Monsoon, the previous week from June 25 to July 1 turned out to be the weakest phase of the season. During this period, East Madhya Pradesh recorded 24% deficient rainfall and West Madhya Pradesh received 29% deficient rainfall. But if we see the overall Monsoon rainfall performance in Madhya Pradesh (MP) till date, the figures change dramatically. West Madhya Pradesh has recorded 34% surplus rains and Monsoon rainfall in East Madhya Pradesh has remained at par.
Normally, East Madhya Pradesh receives more rainfall in comparison to West Madhya Pradesh. This year, in spite of subdued rainfall activity in most parts of the country, Madhya Pradesh has witnessed largely continuous rain. The eastern parts of the state, in particular, have been receiving consistent rainfall activity. Whereas only on and off scattered rain showers have been observed over the western parts of the state.
As per Skymet Meteorology Division in India, West MP will experience very less rainfall activity over the next four to five days. But during this period, light rain will continue over East MP. However, from July 7, a significant rise in rainfall activity will be experienced over East MP. This upsurge will be triggered by a low pressure area which is likely to develop over North Bay of Bengal and will then move in a westerly direction.
At the same time, a Western Disturbance (WD) will also start affecting North India and a trough is expected to stretch from the WD near Punjab to north of Chhattisgarh. This trough will also be instrumental in providing good rains over Chhattisgarh and East MP.

These rains are likely to continue over the region till July 10 and 11. West MP is also expected to witness scattered rainfall activity during this period. However, the intensity of rain in the western parts of MP will be very less in comparison to the eastern parts of the state. Also, this spell of rain will be extremely beneficial for the Kharif crops in the state as Madhya Pradesh is moderately dependent on Monsoon rains for irrigation of crops.
