This year Monsoon made onset over north Madhya Pradesh on June 24, nine days later than its usual date of June 15. However, rainfall activity soon picked up and the region received good Monsoon rains in the last week of June. By the end of the month, West Madhya Pradesh observed rainfall surplus of 46 per cent, while East Madhya Pradesh recorded an excess of 4 per cent.
During the first week of July, most parts of Central India including Madhya Pradesh witnessed subdued rainfall activity. Although, on and off rain was observed over East Madhya Pradesh but western parts of the state remained dry. Due to reduced rain in the region, East Madhya Pradesh has become 17 per cent rainfall deficient, while West Madhya Pradesh is deficient by 5 per cent.
However, now the rainfall activity has once again picked up in West Madhya Pradesh. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Jabalpur received 56 mm of rain, Rewa (35 mm), Sagar (30 mm), and Satna (11 mm).

Now, a low pressure area which is over the Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand will move in a westerly or northwesterly direction. Furthermore, it will increase rainfall activity over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh.
This increased rain activity will sustain for next 2 to 3 days. During this period, most parts of East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of North Madhya Pradesh will receive good rain.
