Since the last many days, most parts of Central India especially Madhya Pradesh are under the grip of cold wave conditions. In fact, many places in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are even recording minimums below 5˚C.

Yesterday, the minimum temperatures recorded over most places of Central India were as follows – Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh recorded -2.0˚C, followed by Umaria 1.0˚C, Malanjkhand 2.0˚C, Datia 2.2˚, Nowgaon 2.4˚C, Damoh 2.6˚C, Rewa 2.8˚C, Gwalior 3.1˚C, Mandla 3.6˚, Jabalpur 3.9˚C, Khargone 4.0˚C, Nagpur 4.0˚C, Rajgarh and Tikamgarh 4.2˚C, Satna 4.3˚C, Ambikapur 4.4˚C, Guna and Ujjain 4.5˚C, Seoni 4.8˚C and Chhindwara 5.0˚C.

These low temperatures over Central India have been attributed to the prevalence of cold and dry northwesterly winds.

At present, a feeble Western Disturbance is moving across higher latitudes i.e. northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir, due to which the northwesterly air mass is not getting disturbed. Hence, during the next 24 hours also, we expect similar weather conditions to prevail over most parts of central India.

Thereafter, marginal rise in temperatures is possible. The day will be sunny with bright sunshine and pleasant weather. Moreover, during the coming days also, as no significant weather system is likely to affect the central parts of the country, we expect dry and cold weather to prevail over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
