Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to continue witnessing rains today as well

March 21, 2020 10:21 AM | Skymet Weather Team

During the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rains and thundershowers occurred over Chhattisgarh. However, intensity of these rains remained mainly light to moderate. Any heavy rains remained absent over the area. Places like Durg, Mana, Raipur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur received scattered rains and thundershower activities.

However, the weather of Madhya Pradesh remained almost dry. Only some northern and southwest districts of Madhya Pradesh such as Khajuraho, Nowgong, Mandla, Gondia, Chhindwara, Malanjkhand and Gwalior recorded light scattered rains and thundershower activities.

A Confluence Zone is still persisting over the region as the Anti-Cyclone continues to linger over Bay of Bengal, feeding moisture in the form of southeasterly humid winds. Moreover, a feeble Trough is also extending from Rajasthan to Northeast Madhya Pradesh leading to these rains and thundershower activities.

Today also, we expect scattered rains and thundershower activities to continue over Northeast Madhya Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh and parts of Chhattisgarh. However, by tomorrow the weather activities over Madhya Pradesh will subside. Chhattisgarh may continue to get scattered rains and thundershower activities thereafter also.

So, on and off rains are expected to continue over Chhattisgarh for another 24 to 48 hours. One or two strong spells with lightning strikes and strong winds cannot be ruled out over parts of Chhattisgarh. However, weather will start clearing up from Madhya Pradesh and temperatures will increase. By March 23, weather of Chhattisgarh will also clear up.
