The state of Uttar Pradesh as well as its neighbouring region of Bihar have been witnessing wintry conditions for the past few days. In fact, the minimum temperatures in these areas have dropped to single digit with some areas even seeing the mercury dropping below the 5-degree mark.
The month of December had been completely dry and since the past four days of the year as well, rains remained in hiding. Thus, the prolonged dry spell has resulted in the extension of the winter chill over the region.
Persistent fog cover has resulted in cold day conditions thus the rise in maximums has also not been observed over the region. In fact, today, cities including Agra, Allahabad, Varanasi witnessed nil visibility. Meanwhile, Gaya and Lucknow recorded 50 metres visibility with Patna and Gorakhpur seeing the visibility drop to 150 metres.
