Since last many days, the Southwest Monsoon has remained active over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Rains continued to lash many parts of these two states. In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Varanasi recorded 35.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Patna 35.2 mm, Bareilly 33.8 mm, Ranchi 30.6 mm, Bhagalpur 27.6 mm, Gaya 26.8 mm, Lucknow 26.6 mm, Bahraich 25.6 mm, Jhansi 24.6 mm, Hardoi 3 mm, Agra 2 mm.
The reason for these weather conditions can be attributed to an axis of Monsoon trough which is seen shifting towards northern latitudes over Uttar Pradesh, giving lesser rains over the state. With this, the rainfall intensity over East Uttar Pradesh has decreased significantly, only light to moderate rains and thundershowers are expected to occur over this region. Whereas, West Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive moderate spells during the next 24 to 48 hours.
