Lucknow Fog

In wake of back to back active Western Disturbances over Western Himalayas, northern plains were witnessing fog free mornings with an increase in minimum temperatures. It seemed that fog had abated from most parts of the region.

However, fog has made a comeback over the plains and many parts of the region have been witnessing foggy mornings since last few days.

Today morning, Lucknow witnessed dense fog with the visibility dropping to 100 meters. Gorakhpur and Varanasi was no better as moderate fog shrouded the region with visibility dropping to 300 and 500 meters, respectively. Similar weather conditions were observed over Patna as well with visibility being observed at 500 meters.

Meanwhile, the national capital remained fog free once again. In fact, rain and thundershowers are expected over Delhi and NCR region today. With these rains, both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to drop by 2 or 3 degrees Celsius.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to active Western Disturbance over North Pakistan and adjoining parts of Jammu and Kashmir, and its induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining areas.

Moreover, warm and humid southwesterly or southerly winds from Arabian Sea have been blowing over the northwestern plains.
