Low Pressure Over Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal: Heavy Rains Next Four Days

October 3, 2023 1:34 PM |

Low pressure area is now placed over Jharkhand and adjoining parts of Chhattisgarh and Bihar. The system will move slowly and shift northeastward and literally meander over the eastern states of West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand. The remnant of the low pressure area will move across Bangladesh and ultimately get filled up over Assam and Sub Himalayan West Bengal by end of this week. Heavy rainfall is likely over the eastern states and northeast India during the week.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected, today and tomorrow, over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and extreme northern parts of Odisha.  Heavy rainfall belt will shift to Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Western parts of Assam on 05th and 06thOctober.  Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya will witness heavy rainfall between 03rd and 07thOctober. The extreme eastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will also experience moderate rainfall during this period.  Weak cyclonic circulation will persist over the area between 07th and 09thOctober and therefore light to moderate showers will continue over the entire region.

Cyclonic circulation and the weather system will start filling up over the same region between 10th and 12thOctober. The spread of cloud will widen to cover the entire region simultaneously but intense showers will ease out over most parts. Large clearance is expected over the region only after 12thOctober when the rains will seize and clouds will wither.  Subsequently, such sustained conditions will pave way for withdrawal of monsoon from the region.
