Low Pressure likely in Andaman Sea, Monsoon nears

The countdown for Monsoon has begun and weather conditions have now started getting conducive for its arrival.

According to Skymet Weather, a fresh cyclonic circulation has developed over East Andaman Sea. The system is continuously getting more marked. In fact, cloud configurations and atmospheric conditions are already indicating towards its further intensification into a low pressure are over the same area.

Moreover, this system will be responsible for the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next few days.

In wake of this system, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have already started recorded moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Nancowry recorded 60 mm of rain, Car Nicobar 18 mm, Hut Bay 13 mm, Maya Bandar 10 mm and Port Blair 3 mm.

Further, with further strengthening of the system, moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers will continue over southern parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next coming days. Few areas are also likely to record isolated heavy showers.

Meanwhile, intensity of rains over northern parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be confined to moderate showers only.
