Active Northeast Monsoon conditions continue to drench Chennai with good rains. Intense clouding is seen engulfing the state capital these days, paving way for extremely pleasant weather. All thanks to the persistent well-marked low pressure area over West-Central Bay of Bengal, that has traveled along the Tamil Nadu coast.
Today also, Chennai stands good chance of moderate rains accompanied with squally winds and thunderstorms. According to weathermen, day would be cloudy with some passing showers, while intense activity can be expected during evening or nights.
As the weather system has moved northwards, the rains intensity has decreased over Tamil Nadu and is presently confined only to the northern parts including Chennai. However, peripherals of the weather system would continue to bring moderate rains with one or two short spells of intense showers during the next 3-4 days. Along with these strong gusty winds will also impact Chennai.
Heavy rains are likely to return Chennai by October 27 as fresh weather system is in sight in the Bay of Bengal. Weathermen predict that the system would be stronger than the present one.
So far, the city has already received 222.3 mm of rain against the normal of 315.6 mm. With more rains in offing, Chennai would be able to surpass its monthly average rainfall with ease.
The city has already recorded one spell of 3-digit rainfall, which is nothing unusual for Chennai during the ongoing Northeast Monsoon. The city records more than 60% of its annual rainfall during this month. November is the rainiest month for the Chennai, followed by October.
