A Low-Pressure Area was formed under the influence of a cyclonic circulation which was the weakened phase of Storm Kai Tak that caused destruction in parts of Philippines. This Low-Pressure Area is at present over Southeast Bay of Bengal near the Andaman Sea.
This weather system is likely to move in a northwest direction, thereby giving moderate with a few heavy showers over Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the next 2-3 days. However, as it is expected to move towards the west-central Bay of Bengal, it will then move in a northwest direction.
Further, by December 29, this weather system is anticipated to recurve in a north-northeast direction towards Bangladesh and Northeast India.

Though it will not have a direct impact on the eastern coast of the country, due to the change in the wind direction, the sky may become partly cloudy to cloudy over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal between December 29 and 31.
The districts of coastal Tamil Nadu may also receive isolated light rain activities due to an increase in the wind speed from the northeast direction. However, by the first week of January, that is mainly between January 1 and 3, light to moderate rains are expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Thereafter, these rains will fade away as the Low-Pressure Area is not predicted to intensify further and Bangladesh, Northeast India and parts of East India will not have any threat in terms of heavy rains or strong winds.
