The state of Andhra Pradesh has begun to witness light to moderate rains during the last 24 hours. Southwest Monsoon has also made an onset over a few areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as Rayalaseema. Now, Monsoon is all set to cover the entire state soon.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Kakinada recorded 11 mm of rain, Machilipatnam 7 mm, Vijayawada 2 mm, and traces of rain in Visakhapatnam.
Presently, a cyclonic circulation is over Bay of Bengal off the Andhra and South Odisha coast. This system is extending up to mid tropospheric levels. Under its influence, we expect a low pressure to form over west-central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Coast.
Rainfall is expected to increase over Coastal Andhra Pradesh tomorrow onward. Moderate to heavy showers are likely on June 10 and 11 over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh. This system is expected to move along the coast and thereafter in the northeast direction towards Gangetic West Bengal.

As the rains will pick up pace due to the formation of this weather system, Southwest Monsoon is expected to make an onset over more parts of Andhra Pradesh as well as Rayalaseema by June 12.

Normally during the Southwest Monsoon season, back to back weather systems tend to develop over west-central Bay of Bengal. These systems are responsible for enhancing the rainfall activities over the East Coast. Whenever these weather systems move in a westerly direction, states like Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
The intensity of Monsoon rains depends mainly on the formation of weather systems in the west-central and north-west Bay of Bengal.
