Southwest Monsoon 2017 has made onset over many parts of the country. During the four-month long Monsoon season, several weather systems develop in both the Bay of Bengal as well as Arabian Sea. However, both the intensity and the frequency of weather systems remains on the higher side in the Bay.
Presently, the low pressure area which was over west-central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low pressure area. Now, this system is likely to move in a northeasterly direction towards Bangladesh.

Thus, we expect heavy to very heavy rains over a few parts of North Coastal Odisha and over many areas of Gangetic West Bengal as well as Bangladesh. Kolkata may also receive moderate to heavy spells.
By tomorrow, the northeastern states particularly Tripura, Mizirma, Manipur and Nagaland will also receive moderate to heavy spells of thundershowers. Rainfall intensity will reduce significantly over Odisha and West Bengal by afternoon hours of June 12.
Also, the well-marked low pressure area will weaken gradually. However, by June 12, rain belt will shift towards Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh with gradual decrease in NMMT.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh nation will once again witness heavy rainfall activity bearing the brunt of the weather system which developed in the west-central Bay of Bengal.
