There are indicators of a low pressure area entering the Andaman Seas from the Gulf of Thailand within the next 48 hours. Our model forecast shows subsequent strengthening of the system to possibly become a depression. The weathermen at Skymet are keeping a track this movement and will update if there is any further development. Estimated life span of such systems over the ocean is 4 to 6 days on an average.
Northeast monsoon this season had commenced with a bang with cyclone Phailin ravaging the east coast, last month. These storms are quite common in the Indian Seas during this season. On an average, two to three storms form in the Bay of Bengal between October and December.
