Low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal (BoB ) and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean has become well marked. It is supported by cyclonic circulation up to higher levels of atmosphere. The system will move nearly westward to reach Southcentral BoB and east equatorial Indian Ocean in the next 24hr. Further, the low pressure will move over southwest BoB, off Sri Lanka coast by 17th Dec.
Unlike the previous system, the low pressure is moving in the southern latitudes, close to the equator. Therefore, it is likely to maintain low profile and move across Sri Lanka and South Peninsula as dormant system, mostly as cyclonic circulation. Still, the northeast monsoon activity will get revived over the southern parts, commencing 18th Dec.
While, the circulation persist over Sri Lanka, Gulf of Mannar and extreme South Peninsula on 18th and 19th Dec, coincidentally an easterly wave will move across, overlapping and enhancing the weather activity. Prolonged wet spell for all the 5 sub divisions of northeast monsoon is likely between 18th and 23rd Dec. Spread and intensity will be more for the state of Tamil Nadu from 19th to 22nd Dec. Weather conditions will improve markedly over the entire region, just in time for Christmas celebrations.
